I change all of the brakes and rotors on my cars for years and have nevery had any issues. apparently this volvo of mine has more complications than ive ever seen!!
Ive already bought rotors (ill explain later...)
but my question is, why when i search online at ANY parts store with ANY brand of rotors, and search for the Volvo 2004 s40 T5 it comes up with TWO options
both of these options are listed in the search as items for the 2004 T5
an 11.8" front rotor AND a 12.6' Front rotor.
does anyone have any idea why there are two listed sizes for the same car??
which one is the right one?

Hello,
I had the same problem with my wife's S60. All the auto parts stores gave me two options. I went ahead and ordered the rotors and they were to big. At the end I just measured the rotor and ordered the other option listed (which by the way for the S60 it doesn't tell you sizes, just different part numbers for same car, so it's an advantage for you, at least it gives you sizes). When the rotors came in, I just measured before taking home and bingo there it was, the right one. You may just have to measure yours and then order accordingly.
Hope this helps...

wish i had known that before. $180 and 3+ months later the ebay seller is no longer replying to any of my messages. he ended up supposedly getting the rotors from volvo because his manufacturer didnt have them (they only made the 4 bolt pattern rotors) and of course i got the size thats a ridiculously small amount (8mm) too big (i know that with brakes that is a big difference but still)
so now i have 12.6" paper weights. I was considering trying to get them turned down but they are drilled and the drilled holes would be too close to the rotors edge for fear of cracking.
Is there any specific reason for these size discrepencies?? seems absolutely RETARTED if you ask me.[:@]

Yeah its weird how they have this information for the rotors. That's why I didn't buy them at ebay. While doing research one of the reasons it comes in two sizes has something to do with the wheels the vehicle comes from factory. Other than that I haven't really found any other info.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!
through some of my own research and the help of asking EBC (they make both size rotors for the car) i found the answer. This is just funny......
the 11.8" rotor is for the Automatic model, where as the WHOPPING 8CM LARGER 12.6 rotor is for the MANUAL tranny... Youve Gotta be kidding me, ive heard of being meticulus, but seriously....

Hey firechicken99,
Good research. The guys at the auto stores told me it had to do with the wheel size. They would even ask me what size wheels I had on it so that they could get the right ones ordered. I really never went ahead and did a little more deeper research after I received the right ones. Those auto store companies have it all screwed up I guess...
Thanks for the info!
