What's the cheapest clutch disk I can get for a Volvo S40? Do Ford Focus ones fit?
Hi,
Odd request here.
I am converting a Volvo V70 to full electric. I obtained a 5 speed manual transmission from a Volvo S40 (2008?) and I am working on creating a coupler to mate it to my forklift drive motor.
I'm tryig to do this as inexpensively as possible, and I'd like to source the spline adaptor from a clutch disk-- will be taking that down to a driveline place and having them weld the splined piece to the motor's coupler to create the finished part.
What is the cheapest compatible clutch disk I could get for this application? I saw some talk online that some Ford products used the same clutch kits, and Ford parts are cheaper. Also saw chatter about Mazda clutches working.
Thanks in advance.

will you require a pressure plate and fly wheel? if so, which fly wheel are you using the S40s or from the V70?
If you need a fly wheel, going used may be the best option. As to clutches, most are sold as kits - disc, pressure plate, slave cylinder, throw out bearing. I did a quick google tour and all show only one model of the Ford Focus so I doubt you'd get a deal that way. Sachs is the OEM supplier and LuK is a widely available after market. You should be able to get a kit for under $400 - so start by checking out FCP, EEuroparts, RockAuto, Partsgeek, ebay etc. I like to find a vendor part number (say for a Sachs or LuK kit on a bigger/better web store like FCP) then google around. Partsgeek looks to have the best prices and who may offer just a disc if that's what you need.

I basically just need the splined coupler that's in the center of the clutch disk. Get that attached/balanced to the coupler for the forklift motor. Done.
I'm wondering if you can get something from a recycle yard then. See if Erie VoVo (a volvo specialist) would sell you a used clutch disk. You can also try using car-part.com to see who's breaking up any S40s or other models that use the same transmission.
