Default xenon lights

Hi guys!
I have the new 2005 S40. My car didnt come with the HID(stupid me for not getting a s40 with HID). and now i want the HID. the aftermarket HID conversion kits work great on the fog lights, but none of them work on the low beam. people at the body shop said it could be something wit the computer that is not letting the conversion kit to work. i asked a volvo dealer and the dealer said he doesnt know.
the dealer said if i really want xenon, if aftermarket parts don't work, i could just purchase new xenon headlights for the car, but those cost like 800-1000 a piece.
Any of you new S40 owners in the same situtation? wanting xenon but cant get it to work...
or any of you guys know how to solve this problem?
im a noob at cars[&:]

I think the dealer has to download something for the computer to recognize the xenons. Pretty sure I saw this was the prob before, but dont quote me. Maybe call another dealer or two, unless somone says its something else.

Hi Biotek,

The problem is that the CEM is reading the voltage drop across a resistor that is in the line that feeds the lights. If you power the HID thru the factory wiring, the current drops (the HID's are 35W and the Halogens are 55W) and so does the voltage across the resistor. The CEM thinks that the light is burn't and you get low beam failure. To fix this you need to put load back onto the factory wiring bring it back to 55W or power and control the HID's with your own wiring. I got the wiring diagram and there is nothing in it with enough detail to modify the CEM or replace the resistor. The wiring diagram treats the CEM like a black box, wires go in and out but nothing detailing what is going on inside. The dealers (the one's that I have dealt with west coast USA and east coast USA, don't know). I heard that the 35W HID powered directly through the factory wiring will not give the LBF but I haven't tested this.

Hope this helps!

Cheers...
