Default 2002 S60 Clogged Vent Line?

Hello, I have a 2002 S60 with about 140,000 miles. When filling up, gas backflows after about a few seconds. I took it into the shop and was told it has a clogged vent line. I was then told that to repair it, it will most likely cost upwards of $1,000! I was wondering if anyone has had any experiences similar to mine, and being your typical financially challenged college student, has anyone found a more affordable option? Thank you so much!

Go look for other repair shops or do it yourself so save big. If u can't do it, then u have no choice but to look for reputable shops or mechanic. Jack up the car and trace the filler hose going down to the tank and look for a hose connected to it. That is the vent line.

I have a similar issue... It takes 15 - 20 minutes to fill my gas tank. The spigot continually shuts off. I have been to numerous stations and have tried many different positions of the handle (full in and moved out, positioned at 45and 90 degrees of normal) all with the same results barely run the flow and the tube fills and pump shuts off.

If this is a venting issue, how do you clean / clear?

Thanks for any and all help (other that sell the car)

It's a 2004 XC90 5 cyl Turbo
