05 S60 R Headlight Question
I have an 05' S60 R and with my low beams on at night not that much of the road is illuminated. When I turn my high beams on I can see better, it seems like that where the lows should be (but obviously I cant drive all over town with my highs on!) Does anyone know if there is a way to ajust the low beam height? Or should I just get used to it?

RE: 05 S60 R Headlight Question
Cotton - Your car should have the Xenon headlights with automatic range adjustment, which should do some height adjustment as needed. You certainly shouldn't have issues with them being too low if the system is working correctly. I would suggest getting it back to the dealer to have them check the system operation, or you can use this rule of thumb as far as proper adjustment goes: 1' drop @ 20 feet. I.E. you measure headlight beam height at the headlight, and 20' away it should be approximately 1 foot lower.

RE: 05 S60 R Headlight Question
You can adjust them yourself. I had to because I had the same issue, and it seems many with xenons do also. When you open the hood look down on the headlight assembly, and you will see the adjustment. It takes a socket driver if I remember correctly.
Just remember to adjust it a little at a time.
FYI, I had to adjust the fog lights also. There is a dial when you reach up behind the fog light assembly.

RE: 05 S60 R Headlight Question
pop the hood open, the closes cap on headlamp assembly beside your vehicle's frame is the low beam. turn the cap and it should pops out. then push on the spring for the bulb and release the bulb. (BULB SIZE "H7") when u get new bulb and putting it in make sure u don't touch the glass on the bulb since when bulbs heats up it can explode inside headlamp assembly due to your oil from finger can create hot spots for the glass. if u don't know how go to most gas station or auto parts store and buy the bulb they should be happy to put it on for you.

This is a postscript to previous message. I am really desperate because I can't drive at night with only one headlight. I might get stopped and receive a citation, besides the road being soooo dark. Thanx again, Ladynightmare

RE: 05 S60 R Headlight Question
Hmm, assuming it's really that bad I would adjust it back to about the middle or slightly lower. Take it back to the dealer and ask them to recalibrate them, not adjust them the way you and I would. Then if it's still too low, you can tweek it yourself. I would think that would work.

Even though this thread started 4 years ago, I'll post a quick how too from SS so if anybody here needs the info, it's here...
Here is a view of the vertical static adjustment screw. When you look down from the top, you will see a hole through the sheet metal on top of the headlight assembly. Down through that hole you will see a small, white, plastic 6mm male bolt -- this is the adjustment screw.I used a six inch extension with a 6mm socket to turn the adjustment screw. Just use your fingers to turn the extension, as there is little resistance to rotation. So far I have turned it 1.5 turns (keep close track of where you start and how many 1/4 turns you make, and do the identical amount on both sides) in a clockwise (i.e. tighten) fashion. This raises the static level of the lights. This is still too low, so I have to go at it again when I get a chance. Be methodical about the process, carefully noting the rotation you make from the starting point (to allow you to return to the factory adjustment (for an unknown reason and to allow you to make identical adjustments to both sides). Be cognizant of the fact that you are trying to obtain a proper height adjustment without interfering with on-coming traffic or same direction traffic in front of you. Err on the conservative side.<p>Here is a pic with the socket extension in place ready to adjust.

the above minor ajustment is fine if that's all you need but i was looking in the treetops and i read another post that the lights where pointing to the ground. volvo wanted $2500 to replace both units. fixed myself for $0. it is easy and i think they just wanted to take me for a ride

I have a 2005 s60 and the regular headlight is out, drivers side. I looked at where it is located to replace and it is a tight fit, too tight to put in a bulb. Any insight out there on how to free up the space to replace the headlight? Could not find a release to remove the headlight assembly like in the s40. any help is appreciated.
