Default 2001 volvo only 28k miles!

So I just bought a 2001 volvo s60 with only 28k miles. This car is a salvage title but for the price I payed I can stomach a few problems if they come up down the road (actualy for the price I paid I could stomach turning it into scrape). I had it taken to a volvo tech before buying it and he said that it wasn't in bad shape. He said I needed the change the oil, the brake pads were a little low and that the timing belt would need to be replaced by the end of the year. The only other problem was that the passenger side airbag has been used so that side of the seat is ripped open and he said a replacement could cost anywhere from 450 to 2000 dollars. I wouldn't mind spending 450 but 2000 is a little much considering how much I paid for the car. Would buying a seat at a junk yard be worth it if the cost was $2000?

Now my plan was to take it to a volvo dealership for a 30k mile checkup and have them do this initial work. After that I would keep the tunes ups and things to a non-dealer location. Do you think this is a wise plan?

do you think there is any other work i should have done to it? Like with any other fluids?

Thanks

Welcome. Check ebay and vandsautodismantlers. You should be able to find a seat a lot cheaper than 2K.

Hi, congrats on your bought.

7 years only 28k miles. it is not too many miles. the previous owner seldom drove this car.

the timing belt should be replaced every 70,000 miles. (volvo recommends)

The mechanic told me that the timing belt also need to be replaced if it becomes too old. Is this correct?

I would change the timing belt because of age. Nothing like a little piece of mind.

So I talked to a volvo cert tech and he said the timing belt replacement based on age is 12 years or 105,000 miles. You guys think I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill? He is going to do the 30k service on the car and check all the fluids, belts, shocks, struts, brakes so if there is a problem he said he would tell me. I kind of trust him as he could of said "yeah replace it."

I've been told the time was something more like 60 or 72 months. I had mine changed after seven years 95K and it was cracked pretty bad I guess.
