Default 2001 volvo s60 engine system service required

Please bare with me, as I am currently away from my vehicle & not the most car savvy person. I have a 2001 s60 (turbo but not awd) and while I was 20 minutes into a commute the other day the car started kinda sputtering. I had just got it up to about 75 mph on the highway and if I'd give it any gas at all it would rev up, stop, Rev up, stop, etc, in quick succession; however if I were to be just coasting it would be a smooth ride. I got off the highway immediately and noticed even at low speeds the issue was happening. My car (automatic) stalled at the first intersection and all kinds of warning lights came on. Turned the car off & on again - car seemed to be fine except for "engine system service required" so I drove it to brake max because it was close & noticed the sputtering happening again at low speeds (30-40 mph). The guy said my car was having issues and could go into limp mode, but he couldn't work on it because it's volvo. Possibly related: my car may be experiencing turbo or throttle delay, seemed a little slower than usual.

I've looked into the issue a bit and the most common fixes related to "engine system service required" seems to be the fuel filter & turbo control valve. I am pretty broke so this could ruin me if I have to take it to the dealer and they don't get it right the first time so I would really appreciate any suggestions. I will not be back to my car until Wednesday, at which point I'm going to take it to the dealer. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

That's usually throttle related. Its not the fuel filter, I can tell you that. You need the codes to have any idea though.

When my 2001 s80 t6 did that and got that error on display it was the throttle module located under manifold on front side of engine. Lucky for me I had 1-2 months left of warrantee or it was about $800 just for the throttle module. Labor extra.
