Default 2002 S60 T5 Interior Lighting

Has anyone replaced all of the interior, trunk and license plate lights with LEDs in their S60? Looking for some general comments and to see if anyone compiled a list before I start my own. I did this with my 84 242 and love the result. I used Cool Whites units from Superbright and even added a few out of sight throughout the interior for a nice open door night time effect! Thanks, Ralph

I replaced the interior and trunk with some blue LEDs a couple of years ago, but the interior lights kept on cutting out after 10 or 15 seconds. The only way to get them working again was to pull the fuse to one of the modules (upper I think) so that the system can reset, but then they would just go out again. I ended up butting the old bulbs back in.

I guess they would work if you used the "no-error" type or added resistors in-line with the LEDs.

Hmmm, that's interesting; nothing like that happened with my 242. I have a few extras of different types so I think I'll have to experiment before I order especially since you've told me about your experience. Ralph

Have started to compile my list after testing two LEDs in the license plate holders successfully. How do the upper interior lights front/rear come out? can't figure how to get the panels off, special tool perhaps? Thanks, Ralph

Finished the interior and trunk of my 02 T5 with 8 LED festoons from EBay and so far they are performing beautifully. Big question now is how do you replace the bulbs under the side mirrors? Can't see a way to get at them...!

No problem with the LEDs? Did you get the No-Error type? Would you mind posting a link the product on eBay? I might have to get a new set of lights!

To access the mirror lights, you have to adjust the mirror and find the latch behind it.

Frankly I'm not sure what type I got but here's the link for their product. The Trunk and under dash could have been 2mm shorter but I made them fit by slightly widening the contact opening. Here's the EBay Link

By adjusting the outside mirrors you mean move the housing or the mirror itself? Ralph

Update. Took the car out tonight and noticed that with it running the main front interior lights do not come on when I open the door but the footwells do. The same holds true for when driving and the middle button is pressed only the footwells come on. All the other lights work perfectly and there are no reports of any bulbs being out on the dash so that's good.

I wanted to add that when I open the doors with the remote all (including the mains) the interior lights come on and the same holds true when I shut the car off they all come on. Maybe that's the way its supposed to work, I'll have to have a look at the manual later today. Ralph

Hi, thanks for the link!

That describes the problem I had when I tried LEDs. I think the low resistance from the LEDs causes some problems with the module that controls the lighting.

Adjust the mirror, not the housing. I think pointing the mirror up and a bit towards the car should allow you to get to the latch with a screwdriver.

Another interesting thing about the main lights is that they work perfectly when the doors are opened or closed. The only tie they will not light is off of that middle switch. BTW, I love the way the new lighting looks. Ralph
