2003 S60 2.4t engine has a made in Japan stamp on it. Does this sound right?
I just purchased a 2003 Volvo s60 2.4t AWD from a junkyard. It has 206k miles but the engine is really clean and sound sounds great! The transmission shift perfectly in auto matic and triptronic. It has a new timing belt and I have replaced the serpentine belt. I have 2 quick struts I'm going to throw on the front as the current ones are completely busted. I was looking at the engine and noticed a plate with engine I.D. and serial numbers but it says that the engine was made in Japan. Does that sound right?
That doesn't sound right . AFAIK, Volvo has four factories - in Sweden, Belguim and China (since 2010s) and most recently, South Carolina with the engines coming from Sweden. The VIN incudes the country of origin for the car. From 2000 to 2010, Volvo was owned by Ford so some of the parts are interchangeable but I don't think the 2.4t was ever made by Ford. Do you know the engine code (ie B5244T3)? Usually the sticker is on the timing cover but its code is also stamped into the block on the firewall side of #1.
