Default 2004 S60 - Bosch vs. Denso

Here's a head scratcher...
  • Sticker on the timing belt cover indicates that this car has a B5244S engine.
  • Engine code of the VIN number is 61, which also indicates that this is a B5244S engine.
FCP Euro lists two engines for 2004 Volvo S60 2.4 (non-turbo)
  • 2.4L L5 B5244S Bosch ME-7.01 VIN:61
  • 2.4L L5 B5244S6 Denso MFI VIN:64
This all tells me that I should have Bosch based MFI system... Why does my car have a Denso ECM???

The B5244S6 is an engine variant specific to California. If your VIN and engine say B5244S I would follow that, I wouldn't fret much over manufacturer differences on parts that aren't the engine.

can you see the part number on the ECU? You can always use a dealer site or dealer to use your full VIN or look for other build plates to determine if you have a Cali car.
