I recently got a 2005 S60 2.5t, and didn't anticipate it having a transmission issue. When the car is warmed up (after driving for 30+ mins) shifting issues begin to arise. Firstly, the car will sometimes have a harsh downshift from 2nd to 1st gear, happens more often if it is a harder stop. There is an audible clunk and the car jerks forward very slightly. Secondly, the car will sometimes get stuck when trying to shift from 1st to 2nd gear. Either there will be a small clunk, or the car will seemingly be stuck in neutral as RPMs shoot up and the transmission eventually kicks into 2nd gear. This doesn't happen all the time, but it happens enough to be very annoying. Lastly, the car has some trouble shifting into drive. Either from park or reverse, shifting into drive will shake the car and there can be a 3 second delay. Again, all of these issues ONLY occur when the car is warmed up, the transmission works perfectly when cold.
I have tried a couple remedies to fix these issues including: draining and refilling the transmission fluid twice (~7qts), going to the dealer and requesting a TCM update, putting in some lucas transmission fix, replacing the top engine torque mount and the transmission torque mount
Is my transmission truly screwed? I've read a bunch about S60 transmission up to 02' being very unreliable, but very little from 05' since they had tried to fix those earlier issues. I really hope my transmission isn't toast .
The transmission fluid seems to be a faint pinkish grey (but I am also a bit colorblind so I don't know how accurate that is) and is currently at the second to the top hash mark in HOT. The second issue I listed has gotten slightly better after all of these "fixes" but it still occurs, just less jerky (tires don't spin out anymore).

My son is almost 18 and while helping his friend install lowering springs and shocks on his 2009 P71 I just discovered for the first time how his bit of colorblindness really affects him. His friend had over-sprayed a large patch of red paint on the grass while doing some work. My son could not see it till he was almost right on top of it. The pinkish grey to us can mean you have coolant in the transmission.
Check the radiator for leaks into the transmission.

I have done over a dozen flushes on various makes and models over the years, 2 on Volvos and a radiator bypass while installing a transmission cooler on our Odyssey. Volvos are more prone to behave poorly if you don't get the capacity correct. Sometimes the dipstick seemingly is playing games in terms of where the level is on the stick. I think you have this transmission.

I am currently using this in an 03 Odyssey, 03 S80 T6 & 03 Lexus GS300 transmission. Our Odyssey and S80 are known to have problematic transmissions but they both have done well with it for a over a year now. It's full synthetic plus 3309 while being very inexpensive at this time.

Yep the 2005 S60 owners manual spec's JWS 3309 for the automatic (which is available in synthetic). My guess is it will take a case of 12 quarts to do 3 fills (others have posted what they needed).
Just make sure to google for the proper protocol on setting the fluid level specific to your model after you do your final drain fill . You will need to set it cold, then go through a warm up driving cycle and check it again warm. On the newer models the process calls for checking when the transmission reaches a specifc temperature (55C?) which means the tech needs a tool like VIDA DICE to read the transmission's temp real time (I think that is for the 6 speed autos..).
Hello
I have a s40 2.4 year 2006 here in Chile. I applied this oil to 14 liters use as it was hitting when heating the oil to 85 degree. the pulls are still going tomorrow I will clean the selenoids and I will see what happens
