2005 S60 breaking down after long trip
Help, I am not a mechanic by an means but I have loved all of the Volvo's I have owned. One of my Volvo's is a 2005 S60 2.5 Turbo/125,000 miles and has been well maintained. Car has been great to me. I recently gave it to my son who drives it to college- NY to VA. After about 8 hours of driving car the car loses power and it displays the code "coil failure".
Had mechanic check and he replaced one of the coils. Next trip to VA car breaks down after 5 hours into the trip, had to have vehicle towed rest of the way. Mechanic in VA checked car could not find a problem. Last trip back home to NY car lost power after 9 hours (almost home). He waited for me to pick him up (30 minutes) car started when I got there and drove it home no problem. This time I brought the car to Volvo dealership and they could not find any problem (computer did not display any code). The car is great the rest of the time, just has a problem when driven for several hours. Hate to get rid of this car but I am reluctant to let my son drive back to school for fear he will break down again. Any suggestions?

I don't think it's ease for us to point to a specific issue. Best would be to check what's going on at the moment the car fails. By breaking down, do you mean the engine shuts off and won't restart? Usually it's a matter of either fuel or ignition. Could be the fuel pump for example. I doubt it's the CEM module or the main computer (getting hot under the hood) and they would trow a code. Thank for the info I will consider the fuel pump or ignition. But to answer your question about the break down. The car does not shut off it continues to run however it seems to miss fire and lose power no acceleration when pressing on the gas pedal. The last time it occurred the car sat for 30 minutes or so and then we started it up and the car ran for 50 miles faultlessly. That was over one month ago my son has been driving the car locally with no issues at all???
