Default 2005 s60 transmission

Just bought a pristine 2005 s60, 78000 miles one old lady owner. Had some minor oil leaks repaired along with all seals, phasers, timing belt kit and oil trap replaced.

Noticed after getting to operating temp the trans shifts hard from 1-2 and back when coming to a stop. Did a drain and fill( Volvo synthetic), took to the dealership and had the updates installed, this did not fix the problem.

I have too much invested, so next stop reputable independent trans shop for diagnosis. I’m aware of the B4 plate kit and possibly valve body replacement.

What can I expect for a quote and or will they try and talk me into a new tranny?

See if you have an independent volvo shop around. Hard shifting in and out of 2nd gear is a common issue in the transmissions on this generation car. They might be able to offer better insight.

I have a couple of good ones and they won’t touch the tranny, both have referred me to their tranny only shops, of which I am in the process of going to.

My question is, if they recommend a complete valve body replacement should also have the b4 solenoid kit done as well? If they even know about it. And what’s the going rate? I’m definitely getting more than one quote.

I have similar issue. Few days ago, got the fluid replaced and now it shifts very smooth while the transmission is cold. Once I get in stop and go traffic the hard shifts come back mainly 1-2; 2-3 and 2->1st when stopping. The shop said that the fluid was clear and with no debris. What should be my next move?

I love how my S60 T5 drives after all these 18 years. I called it the rocket. It easy does 100+ in my daily commute. I would like to continue driving it.

I am in the process of getting this fixed, the lean is to replace the valve body with a a quality reman and the problem goes away. Keep the fluid clean and should have years of good driving.

Im trying to find out if I need to do the B4 servo kit as well, haven’t got a straight answer if this trans was already modified at the factory.
