Default 2006 S60 Fuel Pressure Logic, Fuel Rail Sensor

Hello,

I'm troubleshooting a stutter / hesitation on a 5 cylinder turbo. I've captured some strange behavior with my scan tool. When driving the car, when the driver can feel the stutter, I have captured the fuel pressure shooting up to 111 psi and holding there for up to a minute before returning to "normal". I also see shorter time period episodes where the fuel pressure will shoot up to 84-85 psi for just a few seconds and then return to normal (44-45 psi). Neither of these increases in fuel pressure are due to increased load as far as I can tell. Plus I can't trigger a fuel pressure increase even if I am trying moderately hard (ex. accelerating onto the highway the psi still hovers around 44-45). This is my first vehicle with a fuel pressure sensor / duty cycle system so this is all new to me.

Is the fuel pump even capable of hitting 111 psi or is this a good indication that I have a failing fuel rail pressure sensor? Any idea why I get random high pressure spikes that only last a few seconds?

Thanks!

I would start by replacing the sensor, they are a common failure. Can your scanner read fuel pump duty cycle?

Hi First Volvo 2018, I have exactly the same problem. Did you find a solution? Mine is starting to get worse, thought there are significant periods of time where the fuel pressure is stable. I have been riding around with my OBD reader on and the stuttering is directly associated with an errant fuel pressure. Jeff
