2006 Volvo S60 T5 shifting issues
I have some tranny problems that only appear when NOT running AC... strange..... when idling in P for a extended time, AC off, Park to Rev is fine, but I get a delayed shift into drive from reverse, then its a hard shift. Driving around I get some delayed upshifts and harsh shifts sometimes, its not bad but not flawless. With AC running it shifts fine, no issues, I have changed the fluid and used the TLS T-IV Aisin fluid from RA, that made some improvements in the overall performance. Why would running the AC make such a difference. No other problems other then that.
Just guessing here but the only possible connection with the AC would be electrical - A couple things I'd try are check/clean the ground connection to the transmission and to clean connectors/reseat the TCU
The delayed shift thing seems to be common, I've read but no one has a real solution. I'm thinking maybe since the AC causes the fans to run the trans oil temp might have something to do with it. Which would explain why its more prevalent at idle, car not moving. I read somewhere that someone else had this issue on a hot trans, they also had hard 2-1 shifts which I had until I changed the fluid, I have been doing the drain-fill 4 qts at a time, done it 4 times now. My 2005 Chevy Equinox has a similar aisin-warner trans, when I took off the cooler lines and drained it I got 7 qts out of it, I may try that with the Volvo. That and add an oil cooler.
