Default 2007 S60R Timing Belt

I bought a 2007 S60R and had it for about 6 months and while driving down the road around 40 mph , the vehicle just stopped running. I pulled off the road way and tried to start it. NOTHING. I had a tow truck come and get it.
I took it to the dealer that I bought it from. I was told that the timing belt came off and that MOST LIKELY , im going to need another motor. What are my options at this point, the car is in very good condition except the Timing belt issue. Can it be fixed by just replacing the belt or another motor. If not what would be a asking price for the vehicle as is. I truly don't want to sell it but don't have $3000. to fix it at this point and time. An advice....

Its an interference motor so it's shot, replacing the belt wont fix it. In my area, Connecticut, USA, I have seen blown motor s60Rs going for around 1000-2000 depends on shape of everything else. You can get more money parting out a SR if you have the demand and/or patience for it.

Usually that would be fixed with a valve job. Remove head, have machine shop replace the bent valves and do whatever else is needed to the head, and reinstall. With a car that old you should be doing other things while it's apart such as pcv replacement and a new water pump during the cam belt replacement. Unfortunately that repair work could easily cost well over $3000 retail. With my shop having done sat least 100 valve jobs for bent valves/overheating over the years - I would not expect to find any other permanent damage to the engine.

I don't think you need a whole new engine, Just a new belt. ****ing dealer is trying to rip you off.

the 5 cylinders are interference engines so if the belt came off or skipped a few notches when the engine is running, you will bend the exhaust valves and possibly damage the piston crowns (somewhat rare). As hoonk noted, the solution is to pull the head off, inspect, repair the valves, then take advantage of the disassembly and replace anything that's suspect - water pump, idler pulleys, serpentine belt, timing belt+ tensioners, check main and cam seals etc. You can call a machine shop to see what their labor is to rebuild a head (including checking for flatness) plus you can search for a used engine/head via car-part.com to price out the parts and shop for an Volvo savvy indy to see if that can drop the $3K cost (but don't expect to save a lot unless you do the job yourself.)
