Default 2011 S60 winter tires

I want to know about getting winter tires for my car. It's a 2011 s60 awd with 18's. I want to downsize to 16's for the winter, but have questions about this. My recent tires are 235's, my bro-inlaw said I need to keep to the 235's or else the transmission will shift to early or too late based on the tire size. Can I go down to 225's without destructive results? Any answers would be great

Go to Tirerack.com and look up your car. Their recommendation for alternates would provably be 17s not 16s, but either way, your brother-in-law is wrong. It is the height of the tire that needs to be changed to accommodate a smaller wheel size. I would phone Gary at Tirerack or email him.
