2012 s60 t6 Check Engine P0012, P0076
Hello all, I am new to this forum so I apologize if this is a repost or if I could have found information elsewhere, I searched around before posting.
My 2012 Vol s60 t6 has a check engine light on, throwing codes p0012 and p0076. I removed the variable timing valve solenoid and connected it to a 12v power source to test its functioning. It doesn't move, I assume that means that it needs replacing. I'm hoping someone has experience with these codes and can offer a logical next step.

TBeck45, are you gettting the same CEL codes or are you just looking to see if anybody else with a 2012 with an out of warranty repair had an issue with Volvo service? In the case of the OP here, they had an issue with their VVT solenoid or its related wiring, not all that uncommon a problem and not a huge ticket fix. the P0012 code says the cam timing is retarded (meaning the VVT is stuck in the wrong position at some point in the driving cycle) and the P0076 is saying the control voltage for the circuit to the VVT solenoid is low - suggesting something in the circuit path is shorted to ground - like a wiring issue or the solenoid itself is shorted.

I'm having a similar experience, P0076 in my 2012 XC70, 3.2L engine. No solution yet. I can tell you, however, that the solenoid does operate on 12V, and will plunge in and out with (approximately) 1/2 inch travel with 12V applied. Both my old and a new solenoid actuate the plunger with 12V applied. If yours doesn't move when you apply power on the bench, you definitely need a new solenoid.
