62 engine and 37K check
My 2012 S60 T5 (engine code 62) went in for the 37500 routine maint check.
I was informed of the Service campaign (short of recall) that now Full synthetic oil is required.
Also disappointed that the oil change, brake fluid flush, Engine air filter, Tire rotation and general check over was $400.
I forgot how much the recession has hit the repair shops.

not sure why you'd consider accepting anything BUT full synthetic oil on a '12. Modern engines are designed with much tighter tolerances than say 10 years ago and to get the efficiency you'd expect rely on premium fluids. Sure its a bummer that Castrol Edge (which is what I put in my '12 VW CC) costs $8-9 a quart, but I get to go about 10K between changes so its not really a huge cost per mile. As to managing other fluids, if you stay on top of oil, brake fluid and transmission fluids your call will last 200K+ with minimal problems. The vast majority of repairs on older Volvos can be traced to lax maintenance
