Default ABS question

I have a 2002 S60 2.4T. yesterday while going home from work the cruise suddenly shut off, and I had a message reading "ABS/Anti Skid service required". I drove the rest of the way home, shut the car off. 20 minutes later I started the car to drive to the parts store to check the codes. By that time the ABS light was off, but the engine light was on. The cruise worked again, so that must shut off when the ABS light is on. I checked and cleared the code at the parts store. Came up with a P0502 "Vehicle speed sensor circuit low input".

After clearing the code, I drove my son to an appointment in another town, and had no problems at all, or today driving to work.

Anybody have an idea what is going on? If the problem is a speed sensor or ABS module, shouldn't it continue to give me codes?
