ABS Traction control

Hi,
I bought my 2007 S60 2.5T last January. It's been great, I love it! But the other day the ABS & traction control light came on. Everything seemed alright, but I was going to call the dealership to have it checked, then the light went off. OK, no problem. A couple days later - Saturday (yesterday) it came back on. Now it's on sometimes & off sometimes. When it's on, everything works normally. When it goes off & I step on the break pedal - even lightly - like driving thru a parking lot at 10 mph & have to stop for cross traffic, it seems that the traction control system kicks in & the pedal goes low & pulses & there is the rumbling & grinding sound. I will call tomorrow to make an appt for it, but I was wondering if this makes it unsafe to drive? The owners manual says to drive it cautiously to the dealership. So I guess that would indicate that it's not life threatening...
Can anybody tell me exactly what is going on with it?
