Default Automatic Transmission noise!

Hi;

I have a 2007 Volvo S60 with an automatic transmission. For a few months now, there is a onetime “click” or a “soft/knock” when the transmission shifts from 1st to 2nd gear. This happens only when the car is cold.
Once it shifts from 1st to 2nd the car does not make the “click” again ... even when I stop at a traffic light and start driving again. When I park the car for few hours ... then the “click” occurs again.

Everything else is perfect!

Any idea what that could be?

I cannot help you, but I came to the forums today to post this exact same thing that is happening to me. It only happens with the cars is cold, from 1st to 2nd and only after it is put into drive the first time. Let me know what you find out.

Oh, mine is a 2006 s60

Thanks "that_guy" ... I'll let you know if I find out anything.

How long did you have this problem? ... mine started only 3 months ago!

I started noticing it about 2-weeks ago. I called the local Volvo dealership this PM and they said I sounds like it could be the splines on the front axles. He mentioned tighenting the axles down and putting down some loctite. It is covered under my warranty so hopefully I will be able to get it in this week to see. I will keep you posted.

axle ping - they will start by gluing them, but then that will fail and you will need to get XC90 bolts.

The noise in my case I was told is the ABS doing a mechanical test. It is completely normal and will happen every time when the car is first put into gear and will occur around 8 - 10 mph.

Thanks “that_guy” for the feedback ... I’ll update the post if I get any further information. However my case does sound exactly like yours (in addition, the car has to be cold)... so, this is good news for me!

regards;
