Hello everyone,
I check out these forums quite often to solve problems with my S60 but this one has stumped me so far so I thought I'd join and post for the 1st time!
Three days ago my A/C started blowing hot and humid air out of nowhere. I drove home and parked over night. The next morning it was cold again but took it to the shop anyway. They checked fans, leaks (via dye) etc. and found only that it was low 1lb. of freon. They filled it and off I went. Then later that day it did it again, I turned the A/C off and back on again and it was cold again.
Today it happened for the 3rd time so I'm starting to wonder if there is something else wrong with it.
-My oil temperature gauge is dead center
-My thermometer reads quite high. sometimes 7-8 degrees above actual temperature. (I live in Phoenix. Today it is 105-110 but at one point it read 118 in the car.
- When this happened today the red triangle with the ! in it appeared.
Any ideas on which direction to go with this?
Need other info I forgot to supply?
Thanks so much in advance,
Ryan

Hey, I had the same issues. There is a place on this site that shows you how to shim the A/C clutch. My dad followed those directions and my A/C blows non-stop now. I live in Texas and it gets very hot. This is the first time I've had that issue, but you should check that out. Just search for it on here. It took my dad about 20 minutes and I'm good. I had taken my car to Firestone and had them do an A/C check and they said that my condenser was bad. That was a waste of $30. I called Volvo and they told me over the phone that it sounded like the clutch was bad, thus I would need to replace the compressor...nope! Shimmed the clutch using similar plastic squares to bread bag clips. It worked for me and it won't hurt to try it.
Good luck!

New development, it seems as though the problem has something to do with idling. If I idle for more than a few minutes the thermometer(not sure if this is related) jumps as high as 124 degrees. Afterward, the a/c starts blowing hot until the car cools down again.
I have not had the opportunity to try to shim the clutch. It's just too hot to work outside.
