Cam timing question during re-assembly
I have a question about cam timing during re-assembly after having the head off to repair an exhaust valve. The vehicle is a 2005 s60r 2.5T. During the teardown I set the engine to TDC and lined up the timing marks, locked the cams with the proper tools, and marked the gears and belt and disassembled it. The cams and the crank have not moved. I since saw in a video that they recommended more marks to show the relationship of the VVT mechanism. My question is do I need to go through a process of verifying the cam timing or will the computer compensate if the timing is a couple of degrees off.

The engine is not timed at TDC, so saying you had number 1 at TDC and used the cam and crank lock tools does not make sense.
If you have the proper tools, you should just do the proper procedure to properly set the CVVT.

Well let me re-phrase that then. I aligned the timing marks on the cam gears (with the marks on the shroud), and verified the timing marks on the damper were aligned, I then applied the cam lock and disassembled the head. I did not remove the starter and lock the crank because I assumed it would not be moved while the head was off.

I'm just trying to know exactly what you did so that maybe I can help you.
There are no additional marks needed. Marking the belt isn't even necessary. The cams will only lock one way with the correct special tool. So lock the cams, disassemble the head. Reassemble. Install the cams. Set up the VVT. Install the belt. If you have the tools, you could have already set up the VVT by now and been on your way.
I lock the crank too, especially since it takes 2 minutes to pull the starter when you already have the intake off.
