Default Check Engine:ECM 4801

Keep getting check engine light. Had codes read at repair shop; ECM 4801(catalytic converter efficiency)
I've also read by search that this could be bad injectors, but I don't know if this applies to the 2001.
Anybody been through this before?
The car seems to run fine and has 96,000 miles on it.
The check engine light will go out by itself, but returns.
Thanks, Mike

Usually the injectors fix it unless the code has been coming up for years. Then you will need the injectors and a new cat.

Well since a new converter is $1200.00, I'll do the injectors!
Is replacing them a job I can do, or is it rather involved?
Thanks.

It is a pretty easy job. Hardest part is getting the fuel line disconnected. It uses like a GM style fuel line setup that you need to tool to disconnect.

But I also think you can roll the rail over and change the injectors without disconnecting the line.

Just follow up question(s).
If I understand this correctly you are saying the injectors(if bad) will damage the catalytivc converter?
If true, and one was to follow the dealers/repair shop advice and change the cat., without changing the injectors, damage to the new cat. would follow?
Why is it the repair shop or dealer don't ever mention the injectors being at fault?
Is there more(in depth information)to the code that is not fully described to the car owner when this code# is read?
I don't want to waste money on repairs that are unnecessary.
Thanks, Mike

Some Dealers may not see many of them and not know the injectors cause the fault.

Yes a new cat can get damaged of the injectors are not replaced as well.
