Check Engine - MAF Sensor & Intake Pipe
My 'check engine' light came on after having vibration at a stop for quite some time now. The testing revealed both a MAF sensor problem and an intake pipe leak.
Replacement parts for both can be found for about $50-$100 each, or if almost $150-$200 each if I bought genuine Volvo parts.
If I were to buy Bosch parts or some other brand, is there a significant drop off in quality? I intend to drive the car another 50,000 miles probably and I'm currently at 150,000 miles.
Basically I'm getting quoted $710 to replace both, but really was hoping to stay within $500.
Also - what's the difference between the intake pipe and vacuum hose?
Please help or provide your opinion / input.
Thank you,
Nathan

If there is an intake leak, it will throw off the reading from the MAF and set a code. A code for the MAF does not necessarily mean it is bad. I would have them fix the leak first and then retest. Any shop worth a damn should know that though.
