Default Checking S60 trans fluid level

I looked high and low for guidance on how to check the transmission fluid level in my 02 S60. Can someone tell me the proper way. Tranny hot with car running in Park or Neutral or cold with car off? The yellow dip stick does have both a Cold and Hot level marking.

Thanks for the info on the drain and fill using the Mobile ATF 3309. I drained it 3times and it drives like a completely different car. I can't say it drives new since I purchased it as a 3 year old, but it climbed up my ramps like a 4x4 after the first drain. Old fliud looked like old motor oil. P.S. Local dealer wanted $220 for the "flush and fill". Case of 3309 cost me $60 with shipping.

As far as I know, it is like any other car. The transmission should be warmed up, the car idling when you check the fluid. This can get dicey with the tiny dipstick where its at. If you did drain-and-fills and put back in the same amount you took out, then you should be fine. (3.5 quarts for mine). Next time your at the dealer, ask them to check the fluid level. I think they do it by hooking it up to the computer.

Hello all, newbie here. I'm trying to help a young, new owner of an S60 who's 2000 miles away. As th OP said, the owners manual tells you to have a Volvo technician check your tranny fluid. So much for the practicality of that!! So is Fisher right? Fluid hot, level ground, engine running in Park r Neutral??

Appreciate any help.

That's correct. Hot, level, running, and park.
