Default Considering 01 S60

I was shopping for a car today online and I found a S60 , automatic , 135000 mile , 3900$.

I came across this forums and read about the transmission problem so now I'm kinda scared to buy it.

I'm a student so I will be buying it , spend 500$ on it ( reparations , etc ) and hope it will last. Is the transmission really a big problem and very common? I tried google'ing about this problem and didn't find anything interesting except this forum..

Would you still recommend me this car? How should I proceed to make sure the "tranny" won't crap on me after a month?

Thanks

Stay away from 01-02 Volvo S60. This and most Volvo forums are full of Transmission problem and most times a 01-02 is the year of the car. A rebuilt trany can cost as much as $3000 and from Volvo can go as high as $4500. Get a 03 or newer and save yourself a Big $$ PIT.
