Default Dealer Maintenance

I called my nearest Volvo dealer (Bellevue WA) and asked about 80K maintenance service. They said, "starts at $650". Does anyone know what that means? The "starts at" is what is worrying.

did you look at your car's maintenance schedule? (not sure what year/model you have). The dealer should have told you what's recommended for 80K miles - ie oil change, safety inspection etc. If they were to find you need new brake pads etc that'd be extra. Keep in mind dealers are also going to point out when you need things like fluid flushes (brakes? coolant? power steering? ), cleaning the intake etc. The fluid intervals are listed in the schedule - stuff like injector or air intake cleaning are money makers for the dealer but may not be on the factory schedule.

The service and what's included is on their website.
