Default Desperately need some help

I was driving to work today and a truck kicked something up and hit the under side of my car. I know it damaged the radiator because it began running hot. The car then just shut down after it blew out some white smoke. No clunking noises it just died then all the dash lights came on. Is this a failsafe to protect the engine or did it completely mess the engine up. I'm going to pull the dipstick in the morning to check for water in the oil. I'm just hoping it didn't lock the motor up. Thanks for any help

You probably locked it up. Should have shut it down as soon as it began to run hot.
