Default Eek! Transmission Service (engine codes P0717 and P0700) Help? Please?

Heya. Got a little transmission issue I'm sorting out. Some direction would be amazing.

I spent a hot day driving through the desert. Maybe that's irrelevant. But after about 5 hours, I got an engine light and a message that says TRANSMISSION SERVICE REQUIRED.

The car made it home, stuck in what felt like 4th gear. Accelerating from a dead spot was slow going, but once I was up around 60MPH all was OK.

I checked the codes, came back P0717 and P0700. The P0717 pointed towards a crankshaft sensor, so I replaced that, cleared the codes, and everything worked fine for a few miles. Then back to square one: engine light, transmission message, same codes.

It's gotta be a computer issue, right? The car doesn't seem to know what gear to be in, which is also evident on the instrument panel... instead of a P (park), R (reverse), or D (drive) showing up in the digital indicator, I get a couple dash marks.

I've googled the bacon outta this issue but I'm not coming up with any straightforward answers. Anybody have any ideas, other than taking it to the dealer and getting the software updated (I just don't know why I would need an update, nothing's changed on the car).

Thanks in advance for any help whatsoever-

were you able to figure this issue out? If not I would start by disconnecting the battery and letting it sit for few minutes. As the batter is disconnected i would inspect the transmission fluid, if it is brown change it. See write ups on here for tranny fluid recommendations and instructions. Then reconnect the battery and test drive it. Please post up dates to your issue, I'm sure someone can help you fix this issue.
