Genuine Key Fob & Master Key Programming
Greetings, all! It has been a while, since I posted on here, and I still got the ol' 2001 S60. She's got 245K on the dash, now, and still running strong.
Anyways, my master key, as well as the key fob have been missing for over two months, and I had been running on the valet key, since. I considered them "destroyed" about a month after the matter because I searched EVERYWHERE before relocating, and they were probably flushed down the toilet.
I also have a Volvo VIDA DICE tool, as well as the included VIDA software installed on my Lenovo, which was dedicated for use with my car, for nearly a year, now. I already had an uncut master key, which was purchased from Volvo Parts of Phoenix right here, as well as a new, spare key fob/remote in the original two-pack packaging along with the programming code, so it's the exact part as the lost fob.
Now, I called a transponder specialist in my area earlier today, and he told me he could just have the spare fob programmed, for $160 (or $400 off-site
). BUT the reason why I mentioned the VIDA above was because I can order the specific software to do it myself, from the same place I purchased the blank key, or from this web store here at a fraction of that $160, needless to say. Has anyone successfully used this method before?
As for the uncut key, I'll try to look around more, or just surrender, and take that particular issue up with my local stealership, since that will also involve a transponder.
I heard transponders can be cloned, though.
Thanks in advance.

Unless you have a legal copy of VIDA with a subscription to do software downloads, you won't be able to do it. The $160 is parts and labor amd sounds about right. We charge an hour at the dealer to program keys and remotes.
Just checking to see, if anyone would've known of any worthwhile DIY methods nowadays, but I guess that's still not the case.
Thanks, again!
Mario, is that in Phoenix you were quoted $160 to program a key? The 2001 S60 we just bought we're taking to Phoenix for a wedding and I was quoted $500 for a second key locally in Minneapolis!
