Default Getting ETM's checked out. Here's the scoop

The dealer says that I need to request the diagnostic for $135, then they can look at my ETM. If it is indeed faulty then they will clean it. If that does not work, then they will replace the ETM. The software will be updated if it has not already been. It seems bizzarre to pay for a diagnostic but if I get a new ETM for than I guess it is okay. I have three volvos that fall within this ETM recall with only a few months left on two of them. The 02 V70 and one of my 01 S60 are definitely having ETM problems.

Please let me know if this sounds about right for any of you whom may have experienced this problem already.

Thank you

Volvo recall? Dealer should eat it. Case closed.
Use the dealer's own words against him; you mean I have to pay to diagnose Volvo's design / life problem? "Don't think so!!!"
This is a nasty one for Volvo to eat. They totally blew it. No one's happy.
The dealer will want to read all codes and take a look at the vehicle to identify other problems that should be fixed before or along with the TCM. This is where it gets dicey. Stay alert!
There is a lot of information about this on the net. matthewsvolvosite.com, for instance, is loaded with info about this. If you are capable, Matthews also has TCM cleaning instructions.
Good luck!

Default ETM Replaced under Recall

Hi All,

In case the problem was not an ETM, my local Phoenix Volvo service dept. required that I would at minimum cover the diagnostic fee of $135. If the problem was other than the ETM and I chose not to have them service it then I would be liable for the $135 fee. That was a lot more easy for me to take since I was 99% sure I had the ETM problem.
The good news is that now I have a brand new ETM and software upload installed in my 2001 Volvo S60 T5. The recall is good for ten years from first purchase date or 200K miles whichever comes first. My car was two months away from 10 years and currently at 130K miles.

Needless to say, I am one relieved and happy camper.
