Default hello! and help please!

Hi, I usually drive a 1963 mgb roadster and am used to things going wrong with it but as winter is coming I have bought a 2004 s60, at a decent price with a bit of work needed on it. At the moment my only concern is a burning smell and a bit of white smoke when idling. It goes away as soon as i pull away and drive at normal speed and the car runs really well. Its going in for an oil and filter change this weekend, but has anyone any ideas what this could be? Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum.

The burning smell is likely some oil leaking down on to something hot. You'll have to track that one down.

As for the smoke from the tail pipe, that's normal if the car is cold. Should not smoke after it warms up.

Thanks I'll get the garage to have a look, can't see any oil leak but they'll know where to look better than I do
