high beams?
so here is my first post. just bought a 2004 S60R and have been playing around with it. after looking at the lights when i turn on the high beams all i notice is that the low beams raise and thats it. are the most inner lights not supposed to turn on? are they not the high beams? i have been searching all over this site for almost two hours because i didnt want to be "that guy" but i have given up on searching. any help would be appreciated, thanks
On U.S. spec S60R cars, the inner round lights are DRL only. The outer light is the high and low beam (HID). You can get Euro headlights, but the last time I checked they weresomething like $2,000.00.
Do you lights have a blueish tint to them? If so they are the Xenon bulbs. No other lights come on when the brights are activated. A little motor in the headlight assembly just moves the projection of the light up to illuminate more area.
I've never heard of themotor moving the light for high beams. In a two filament bulb, one is aimed higher than the other. If you sit in front of a wall and flick the high beams it is noticably different as opposed to the self-leveling feature you notice when driving. I could be wrong, just my observation.
FWIW, s60R/v70R only come with HID.

There is no dual filament bulb in the Xenon bulbs. It has a convex piece of glass infront of the bulb to project the light. When the bright lights are turned on that piece of glass moves to project the light higher up off the ground.
