Default High-pitch sound from HU-613

On a recent 1500 mile (one-way) trip all of a sudden I lost my right front speaker. More recently whenever I turn on the stereo I get this annoying high pitch sound that will not go away even if I turn off the stereo. I have to turn off the car, pull the key out then it will go away. My head unit is HU-613 in an '01 2.4T and am not sure if I have an amplifier with this system but that is the only thing I can think off at the moment that has gone bad. At any rate, any ideas?

Simple fix: Eject the Yoko Ono CD

Sorry. Couldn't resist.

I think the amp is integral to the head unit.
Is the sound coming from the speakers or the unit?
Note-if youhave the radio unitunplugged with the key on it will set anSRS light.

He he at least I didn't have a Yanni CD stuck in it. Seriously though, is the amplifier integrated into this unit ? The indie mechanic I take it said he doesn't know. I checked all the connections in the doors and in the HU everything seems to be in order. At any rate, the interior of this car seems to be falling apart. I think it is time to let her go.
