Default How to mask leather seats

Hi & thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I have an 02 S60 with (what I've been told Sport Arena) leather seats. It is worn out in some places, but not to the point to warn a complete replacement. I already resurfaced i.e. repainted the rear seat bottom (the top part was fine) and want to do the same in the front. I would prefer not to paint the sides of the seats and the headrests because they are fine. Is there a good way of masking these ares so I can paint the rest of the seat?

Thanks!

I usually use some plastic sheeting at least 2mils thk and some masking tape for all my spray painting.

thanks,

it may work it may not. Since I am trying to catch only a part of the seat, masking it along the stitching will be very difficult. After i asked the question, i started thinking of using a Vaseline or similar product (hopefully not damaging or coloring the leather) just alongside that stitching. One of the steps of prepping the leather is completely degreasing it, if other not painted part of the seat is greased I am hoping the paint will not stick. BTW, I am using the foam brush instead of the sprayer, the sprayer I got with my paint is no good for anything. Not sure how it's gona work on the vertical surfaces but I have not much of a choice, other than looking for another sprayer

It's my first time to read about car seats being painted. Will the paint crack once you sit on it? For me I just used seat covers in front due to cracks and tears.

I have a set of those on my Lincoln & they look and work like crap. Painting/recoloring the leather seats is doable, but costly if you go to the "specialist". So far everyone tried selling me on reupholstering the whole car

& it won't crack if you do it right, just google it

Have you considered removing the seat from the car and lay the seatback down horizontal?

Yes I have & possibly will be forced to do it depending on how successful I will be doing it in the car. Unfortunately right now I have no garage, that poses additional problems .
