Default How to tell difference between 163bhp and 185bhp D5?

As the topic states.. I'm driivng a car now that both the insurance and the main dealer say is a 163, but it doesnt drive like the other 163s I've driven. What can I look at in the engine bay to determine whether its a 163 or a 185?

hello cjard,
Isn't the 2.4D the 163 and the D5 the 185? Can't you just look at the back of the car? I'm no expert, but I do havea copy of VADIS. It explains that the 6th-7th digits in the VIN should be the engine code. Sorry, I am not sure which diesel is the high output so I will post the engine codes themselves and perhaps someone can enlighten us.

72 = D5252T MSA 15.8
74 = D5244T2
79 = D5244T

D5244T is 163.
D5244T2 is 130.
D5252T is 140 but was not in the S60.

What year is the car as my info sheet only goes to 2004 for engines and I can't find a diesel with 185 output.

The 185 bhp has a grey motor lid, the one on the 163 bhp is black.
