Increasing power, options?
#4
Your Engine control unit control the boost, mixture, timing advance etc. You can change that (simple - raise the boost=more power) if you can reprogram your ECU. Most of us can't do that so we pay someone who can . Somebody like as hilton or other vendors. (hilton does not tend to specify HP improvements, other Vendors will give vague ranges, or make outlandish claims - such as - 100 hp gain! Torque that will pull you socks off! Lower your ET's! increase your gas mileage! Pick up more chicks! Guaranteed entry into heaven! Buy now!!!!)

Hilton software is installed at your location, the file is sent by email. By you or a shop or your choice. Other vendors can ship you a modified control unit to be installed by you or a shop of your choice. Either way it's a very simple solution if you want 30-50 more HP, + more torque.

there are plenty of shops that will update the software in your ECU but $500 is about the best price you're going to find and the ECU tune is the most cost effective way of gaining some more HP. You can try googling "2013 Volvo ECU tune" or similar. Personally, I'd avoid some of the other options like the ones that install a device to "trick" the ECU into thinking the turbo is making less boost than it really is (effectively raising the boost ). A quality ECU program update will remap the boost / fuel enrichment over the rpm curve to maximize reliability and avoid CELs. Other ways of increasing HP are less cost effective but can include a bigger downpipe (more air out of the turbo allows more air in...), a bigger intercooler (lower charge temp = denser air = more air), free flow cat/exhaust (more CELs, more noise, a handful of ponies), cold air intakes (biggest waste of $$ unless you are doing an extreme build), after market turbo controllers/blow off valves (another waste of $$ unless you are building a race engine), bigger turbo (turbochargers are rated by their pumping capacity - T5s already have a pretty good stock unit so upgrading will be costly (unless you need to rebuild a failing unit) and you'd still need the ECU tune to take advantage.
