Installing a salvaged HU-613
I need to replace the HU-613 in my 2001 S60, but can't see paying the $500 the dealer wants for the job. I can install a salvaged unit myself for one fifth that, but the dealer says I'll still need to take it in to them for a computer download. I had thought I could simply get a code for the new unit based on its number and the vin from the car it came out of. The dealer says they no longer work this way. Is the dealer correct?

RE: Installing a salvaged HU-613
This is something I had not come across as my car is too old to have all the latest electronic gadgets. However,I have read through VADIS very carefully and it would appear that it is correct. If the radio head unit is replaced then new software must be downloaded to make it work.
That is my interpretation of what is on VADIS. Others may disagree or have more knowledge of the subject.
I would try contacting another dealer to see if the information given is correct.
