Default Ipod & 30K tune up

Hello all,

I have recently taken control of the upkeep of a 2004 S60. Otherwise known as "my girlfriend has an S60." Let me begin by stating, wow, what an amazing car; I have really been impressed with the handling capabilities.

The first question is, this Friday we are bringing it in for the 30K service. What exactly is included in this service? I understand that this is a "major service" and wondered if there was anything extra I should go ahead and ask to be done, or are there things that I should ask for them to hold up on? Also, what was the warranty on a '04 S60?I have conflicting reports between 36 months and 42 months...

Also, I saw on a "stealership" website that there is an ipod adaptor that can be retrofitted. I searched this forum, but I couldn't find much on this. Does anyone have this option? How does it work? Does anyone know if this is a DIY project? The dealership wasn't much help on any details.

I currently own a '00 Range Rover, so I am pretty handy and used to ripping off a dash or two for some upgrades.

Any help would be appreciated!

The 30k is Oil,fuel,air filters
Plugs,Coolant flush(Maybe) and Brake flush(Maybe)
A good check over of the car.

The 04 S60 was 4 year 50,000 miles on the warranty.
They also cover lightbulbs.

Not sure about the Ipod adapter though.

What's the most fool-proof way to flush brakes?

The iPod adapter (at least in my 2006 S60) is a long cable that connects the iPod (kept in the center console) to where the 10 disc cd changer would be installed in the trunk. The iPod is accessed from the stereo as the CD changer. The various "discs" of the changer are playlists on the iPod. It wouldn't suprise me if installation is not DIY because an upgrade is probably necessary to add the changer to the stereo "system" - but others on this board could answer that part of your question better then me. Good luck!

as far as the 30k. it differs between dealerships. I work for volvo and we change: oil, coolant, flush brakes, air filter, spark plugs, cabin pollen filter, rotate tires, and a battery service.

The ipod adapter can be done @ home you don't need the special diag. computer the dealerships have. most kits should come w instructions. you need to find out if you have sat. radio prep or not. go to the parts dep. and they can give you the price. The first install I did took about 2 hrs. from start to finish.

Default IPOD Adapter

I did the dealer IPOD adapter and would highly recommend NOT doing it to anyone else. It's a real disappointment and real expensive. I dropped my car off at Paul's Volvo in Hawthorne, NJ for my regular service and asked them to install the adapter. I didn't know what it would cost ... I was only told from their parts guy that they have to run the cable and do some programming for the S60 to interface with it. Anyhow, I picked up my car and was billed something in the order of $525 for the installation (including the cable)! When I questioned it with the service manager I was greeting with a big confrontation ... I signed the "service agreement" was his argument. Only after debating it with the dealership management was I issued a $100 refund ... so that's still $400 to integrate a $200 Ipod Mini. Shame on them, big time.

Anyhow, consider this option: http://www.tentechnology.com/product...s_flexdock.php

It puts your ipod right in front of you and works flawless. Here's my setup:

Do you get any engine noise or static from the FM Transmitter? I have a similar device and there is a small amount of feedback.

Dont use the FM transmiter, works poorly, go to www.ipdusa.com and get their ipod adapter, you will be able to control it trough your steering wheel controls and it even will charge it, simple instalation.

Well I dont have an iPod, and I have something else, but heres what I did:
I opened the top of the center console armrest and mounted my MP3 player in there. I ran the power, line out and USB cables through a selfmade hole in the bottom of the plastic of the console, then back through the back near the rear power outlet. I then tapped into the power going to the rear power outlet, to which I wired the DC adapter for the FM transmitter. I ran a 6 foot line out cable to the FM transmitter, which lives under the boot for the shifter. Its a good setup, save for the static I get from the FM transmitter. I have an inverter in the trunk which I run the MP3 player off of....I am going to rip off the steering wheel and interface the MP3 player with the stereo audio controls...I have a remote which controls the player now. It has a screen on it, so I can see whats playing. It works.
