Just wondering...help?
Hello all,
I'm new here and I'm considering purchasing my first Volvo and I need some advice. Its a 2001 S60 with 107k. What i want to know is...am I getting a good price/value? I don't know much about volvos and i don't know anyone who owns one so I don't really know what i'm getting myself into. Its a real good looking car. Its black w/ leather, 20" chrome wheels, tv, sound system, tints...etc. They're final price is $8000 and it only comes with a 30-day warranty (i live in upstate NY by the way). Are volvos expensive to fix, and are there some very common problems with this model that I should know about?? Any info would help...thanks so much in advance.
Thank you!!

Welcome to the forum.
I am not very familiar with the S60, but I have to admit of the newer Volvos it is the one I like the looks of the best. Me personally I would only buy it if it's the turbo model. You probably need to go to the S60 forum and read some of the threads there and post any questions you may have.

That's probably not a bad price for an 01. Check out www.nada.com, www.kbb.comor www.edmunds.comfor values. Mileage is not too high. Those 20" wheels are going to rub and ride rough. The 01's had a problem with the ETM that Volvo has extended the warranty to 10 years or 200,000 miles. So if it has not been fixed it would be a covered repair. Volvo's as with any European car are going to be a bit more expensive to repair but they also last alot longer. Have a trusted mechanic check it out before buying. Good luck and let us know what you end up doing.

Thank you all for your input. About the 20" wheels...i don't think they rub. I STILL have yet to test drive the car, which is stupid, i know. The guy was on vacation and I got to check the car out and all and I started to fall in love with it. But i will keep that in mind when i drive it. About that repair that it might need...could itake it to any Volvo dealer to have it replaced if it hasn't been??
I'll let you all know how it goes...
Thanks!

Yes the ETM has to be replaced by a Volvo dealership. So whoever is closer go to them.
Lets just say for some reason your not covered it will run you around $900-$1200 just for the ETM and then there is a software upgrade as well and it is like $50-$100.
Hopefully your covered if not good luck. Volvo are not cheap to fix.
