Default Light Wire Question

The lights in the trunk have a black and white wire. I want to tap into the positive to run some leds when the trunk opens. Is the white or black the hot wire? Which is the ground?

Typically, in U.S. automotive applications the white wire is ground. Black is power. Green is right turn. Yellow is left turn. Blue is backup light. Might be different in other countries.
