RE: Mann OEM Filter?
I'm to blame! The website stated something like "Mann - OEM", did not state made in Thailand though! I bought a dealer filter and compared. The orange media seems pretty similar, but the white ends seemed less "original". Even seemed to have some "fuzz" on the surface. not sure if I want that floating around my turbo! They're probably fine, but I don't want to chance it, plus I'm still under warranty. I'll try to RMA them or banish to the trash bin!

RE: Mann OEM Filter?
As I have researched the MANN-FILTER brand-name is marketed by MANN+HUMMEL, a leading development partner and OE supplier of the international automobile industry. MANN+HUMMEL products are manufactured to the highest quality standards as they always. Hope this also applied to the BMW OEM parts that I recently got which was also made in Thailand, which was supplied by them in our local autoshop... But I got it replaced by a part made in Germany... Country sssured more in its quality... So I've felt your pain.. Try giving them a call to replace yours...

MANN oil filter should be made either in Germany or Argentina (as far as I know). The one in the photo doesn't even look close to the OEM. The brand name says "FULL"?
>You can have parts from Japan and Germany and still have problems.
This statement is true, except that I personally feel you have less chance of getting bogus. Japanese mfgs usually use local suppliers or suppliers in the USA.

Addition:
I used Auto parts Warehouse twice and they were ok. But I then switched to FCP Groton of Connecticut for better parts identification; many on-line vendors seem to use the same database and FCP Groton seems to be the only one that has good illustration, etc...

On S60, FCP Groton only seems to sell "Mahle", probably a German mfg assuming from its name.

I personally hate inferior/poor-quality parts.

Pep boys has Purolator Premium filters on sale for $2.49 plus rebate which makes the filters cost 1 cent right now.
The filter was listed for $9.79 so I bought four of them.
unless someone knows why mann or Mahle is superior, I would think these would filter out just fine. Filter forums say they are good flow and media is good as well.
