Default Map update

My husband is trying to update the Sensus navigation maps. We found the link and tried clicking on it. The only thing we get is a pop up that says “save”. We can’t find where it is saving (looked everywhere and did a search for the exe file) IN ADDITION, the instructions on the page with the download link say that “Run” will pop up (not “save”) and that we should choose “new download” and then USB drive. Any idea why we are having this issue? What to do about it?

This may help - with the caveat that I'm running a Mac, not Windows. The first, very short download is not the map data, it is a program that downloads the map data and saves it to the memory stick. After it is saved, you run it and that brings up the download screen - then proceed as directed.

It is, indeed a time consuming process that is apparently governed by the source. I have it running now on another computer, wired directly (not wi-fi) to my gigabyte internet feed but I'm seeing only 5-7 Mbs download speeds.

Further to the story: Just finished latest update. The behavior was the same as I saw the last time I updated

Insert USB memory stick - start car - display reads "Maps & Gracenote updating limited Infotainment functionality"

After a few minutes: "Update failed USB unreadable press EXIT to cancel

Press Exit

Update screen returns and, after a while, the Update failed message reappears

Press Exit and update screen returns again

This is repeated at varying intervals but there is a progress bar which keeps advancing

After perhaps a dozen of these cycles, an Update Complete message is displayed.

I don't know if it is a software glitch or a flaky USB port - probably not a memory stick problem, I've used two different ones and seen the same behavior.

I would estimate the total running time at about 75 minutes.
