5th cyl overheat? There is no such thing. Another example of someone ranting about something when they don't know what they are talking about.

A problem exists with some 2012 S60 FWD transmissions. VCNA acknowledged it and agreed to let me out of a 3-year lease 14 months early. Also gave me a discount on a new 2013 C30.
Some of the loaner S60 vehicles at the dealership exhibited the same problems. Hopefully, Volvo has corrected the problem. |

Recall 243 has nothing to do with transmissions.

P030598 Cyl 5 Misfire Detected - Component or system over temp Recall 243 is for "Fuel System Software update" It just widens the operating peramiters to compensate for the bad valve bodies inside the Aisin 6sd dual clutch Trans. I had the 1st 2 cars that triggered the recall. The second car has a new Trans. Only after I filmed the code showing in the DIM. Codes show in the DIM but don't get stored. The "update/recall" is to cover the bad Trans in cars. What more expensive? A recall with software updates or replacing transmissions? |
I had a 2005 Audi A4 with a CVT transmission. Although I never had a problem with it, VW notified me in 2013 that a class action lawsuit settlement had been reached regarding the Audi CVT transmission. VW offered reimbursement for previous repairs, an extended transmission warranty and if I remember correctly, compensation for trade-in value losses.
Hope Volvo does the same. |
So there was a misfire in cylinder 5. Not a transmission issue at all.
Recall 243: Volvo has identified that fuel may not be transferred from the passive to the active part of the fuel tank. Under certain driving conditions, the driver may notice engine hesitation and in a worst case scenario the engine may stall, even with the fuel gauge indicating up to ¼ of fuel remaining in the tank. The corrective action is to perform an Engine Control Module (ECM) software upgrade per TJ# 24855. This recall affects 7,555 vehicles in the U.S., 402 in Canada and 3 in Puerto Rico. So nothing to do with the transmission. |
Because of a continuing problems with the 6-speed automatic transmission, Volvo offered to take back my 2012 S60 T5 FWD and give me a discount on a 2013. Funny, but on the 2013 S60 test drive the salesperson said, "And for 2013, the transmission has been much improved."
I opted for a 2013 C30 with the older 5-speed automatic. |
Cool. Volvo always keeps the sales people in the loop on technical issues and changes. I would totally trust anything a sales person says.
|
I took the salesperson's comment to mean that Volvo acknowledged there was a driveability problem with some 2012 S60 T5 FWD 6-speed transmissions. So after 22 months of problems with the 6-speed, I chose the older "tried and true" 5-speed.

P030598 Cyl 5 Misfire Detected - Component or system over temp Patrick, did your service team ever find out why #5 had the misfires? Mine's done this 3 separate times. Once last July, once this April and once this July. All three during rainstorms. 3 engine lights, 3 identical codes, 3 identical driving situations. They've swapped coils, sprayed the engine with water, replaced plugs, dropped the fuel tank to check for crud all to no avail. |
