Default Need help buying s60 2.5t not running cam sensor problem?

Hey guys I'm looking at buying an 05 s60 https://delaware.craigslist.org/cto/6035589431.html
I went and looked at it today at the shop it resided at with the owner and the mechanic who did a diagnosis and some work on it previously, but long enough ago that he didn't remember codes and such.
Anyway it will turn but not start and he said something about a code about cam position sensor and he replaced both sensors and it has not fixed the problem. So is it a wiring issue that goes to the cam sensors. Is this a common problem even after new sensors? The owner said that it stalled a couple times before not turning back on the last time it ran. I have an s60r that I just did a cylinder head, timing belt, etc so I am familiar with working on the engine. Also can you scan codes if the engine is not running? Thanks I really appreciate it

Second thought, could timing be an issue?

I've been working on Volvo's for a long time. Along side a bunch of guys who have as well. I don't think I have ever seen a cam sensor on an S60 fail.

I'd bet on a timing issue. Or offer $200 and plan on doing amother head.

You can scan codes with the key on. But if they cleared them, you won't get anything. Depening on what codes there were, some may return when cranking.

Wow thanks for the quick response. I wonder if the guy will let me take the wheel off to turn the crank to check timing. Or can I just muscle the sprockets to see if they line up? Do crank sensors go bad?

I've seen a couple RPM sensors fail. Still rare, but a possibility. I don't think you'll be able to turn it from the cams. Unless there is no compression.

Ok well I'll ask if I can do a compression test, and I'll spin the cams when the plugs are out. Thanks
