I have a 2004 s60, just the other day my car started to clunk into 2nd gear when coming to a stop. It makes a loud click noise and just drops into the gear. It also makes the click noise when shifting into 2nd but not every time. Only thing I can think of is the tranny, would anything else cause this? Has me worried to death now. Ever since doing a drain/fill on the tranny this noise kinda popped up but the clunk into 2nd deal just started. It's only 1 gear that experiences the issues...it seems.

also check your engine mounts and transmission mount.

 

It has 90k on it. Would the mounts cause that kind of thing for the same gear every time?

 

I had the same problem with my 05 S60 2.5T AWD. Coincidently, when I took it in for regular maintenance, they found a broken engine mount. After replacing the mount, I haven't noticed the problem persisting. Engine mounts can go before 90K as my car only had 70k when the mount went.

 

Really? So you experienced the noise only around 2nd gear as well? It just strikes me as odd that it would only do it when shifting into 2nd gear....
The big drop down into gears has stopped as of late actually, I still have the clicking going into around 2nd gear though.
Did I mention that this is an automatic transmission...probably something I should've said earlier, haha.

 

i have an 01 t5 w/ 153k miles. same exact problem i have, i even posted question about this yesterday. anybody else have solution for this besides engine mounts? got yours fixed yet texas?

 

No nothing yet man, going today to get the mounts checked etc so I'll update on what happens. Have you checked your mounts already?
