New Transmission Not
I had this shifting problem. Would go bump into gears. Thought for sure I needed a new transmission. After going to many shop for estimates someone told me it could be the valve body. I got the lowest estimate on a valve body replacement $1100. Bingo. Can hardly feel the shifting now.
I hope this helps someone before they spend $4000 for new trans.

I found this detailed write-up to replace the valves on an XC70, but I believe it's the same Aisin-Warner transmission in the s60's. I've only seen them referred to as "transmission valve body".
