I have a 2001 S60 and the message says alarm system malfunction and service light is on.Called dealer and they say have to replace system at a cost of $500. I also smell gas and just had fuel pump replaced. Fuel gauge is showing only a half of tank of gas. Anybody had these problems? Got to take it back next week. Need answers.

 

I am probly just as green as you are, so take it in consideration please.

If you had it replaced at the dealer, take it first to an indy and have them look at it, otherwise you are at the mercy of the dealer.
Did both fuel gage and the alarm problem started after filter replacement?
If you really need an alarm module I'd first look at the junk yards before even considering paying 500
